Our Story
Naltoli began in the gardens of Assam flat, alluvial land fed by the Brahmaputra, where the conditions for tea are unlike anywhere else on earth. For years, we operated quietly in the background: a bought leaf factory sourcing fresh green leaves from small, independent tea growers
and processing them into made tea for bulk sale.
What we observed along the way troubled us. The tea that left our factory vibrant, full-bodied,true to Assam bore little resemblance to what eventually reached the consumer. Blended, stored, re-packaged. The character of a specific place, a specific harvest, an honest leaf averaged out.
Naltoli as a brand exists to close that gap.

The people behind every cup.
Our farmers are not a footnote. They are the reason Naltoli exists. Most are small-scale agriculturists — educated, capable, and determined to make sustainable commercial farming work on their own terms. They pluck their leaves young, within 6 to 7 days of growth, when the juice and natural properties of the shoot are at their peak. These fresh leaves arrive at our factory, go through a full process withering, cutting, oxidisation, drying, grading and result in the tea that carries the Naltoli name. The quality that begins in the field is something we are obligated to honour in everything that follows.
What is a Naltoli?
The name draws from the Ramayana. Nal was the vanar engineer credited with building the Ram Setu the bridge that carried an army of ordinary beings across the ocean to Lanka. They were not the most powerful. They won anyway. Toli means team or group.
Naltoli is thus a team of ordinary people striving together toward something larger than themselves.
In Sanskrit, Nal also means lotus. The name, in its gentler reading, means a bunch of lotuses rooted in the earth, reaching for light.
